BRISBANE, Australia: While certain industries seek to reduce their footprint through plastic minimisation and other initiatives, the oral health care industry is trailing behind, and thus dental professionals and businesses need to work together to create a systemic social shift. CareDent, an Australian oral healthcare company, took the opportunity at the 2019 International Symposium on Dental Hygiene (ISDH) to announce new innovations designed to reduce its environmental footprint.

Held from 15 to 17 August at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, ISDH 2019 was attended by visitors from 34 countries, who came together to discuss all aspects of dental hygiene. A range of companies were also on hand to discuss their dental hygiene-related solutions. Chief among them was CareDent, which has spent the last year researching and testing methodology and materials for its new range of eco-friendly products and packaging.

At ISDH 2019, CareDent launched Floss In A Box, the company’s first plastic-free floss container. CareDent also introduced Biobrush, a range of toothbrushes with a compostable and biodegradable handle made from 100% maize flour.

“The entire team is very passionate about driving eco-improvement within the oral health industry as Australia joins the anti-disposable movement,” said Dr Raymond Shroot, CEO and founder of CareDent. “This is just the beginning of a major shift we hope to see in dentistry.”

“We received overwhelming feedback from delegates at the ISDH, acknowledging that it’s a great step forward for the industry and many practices are looking forward to being part of this positive shift,” he added.

The company was also proud to announce a new partnership with the McGrath Foundation, a prominent breast cancer charity. For every affiliated CareDent product sold, A$0.10 will be donated directly to the foundation.

“Our vision is that every family in Australia experiencing breast cancer has access to a McGrath Breast Care Nurse and we cannot realise this vision without the commitment of partners such as CareDent,” said Diana Johnson, corporate partnerships manager at the McGrath Foundation.
