LEIPZIG, Germany: Chinese dental health professionals recently met in Shanghai to participate in this year’s Nobel Biocare World Tour Conference. The event, which took place in late April, offered a number of workshops, hands-on courses and one-on-one sessions on the latest technologies in aesthetic and restorative dentistry.

Chinese dental students and dental professionals also participated in a Poster Awards Programme that gave them the opportunity to share their experiences using the company’s products and solutions.

In China, 11 per cent of the population is edentulous (approximately 145 million people) and even more are said to be in need of dental aesthetics. Meanwhile, aesthetic and restorative dentistry has reached new levels in the country and adults of all ages are swarming into dental clinics. Increasing numbers of people are also becoming aware of the importance of a healthy, confident smile and they want to restore their self-confidence through a “Smile Makeover,” Nobel officials said.

“In terms of cosmetic or aesthetic dentistry, smile makeovers can typically correct most deficiencies in a person’s smile, usually through a whole set of cosmetic dentistry solutions including dental implants, teeth whitening and dental restoration,” Dr Yu Guangyan, Dean of Peking University School of Stomatology and Chairman of the Shanghai conference. He continued, “What bothers patients is how to choose suitable products, as well as solutions that will completely satisfy their needs. Therefore, evidenced-based solutions in aesthetic dentistry are becoming a pressing need in the global market and important research subjects.”

Shanghai was the second stop in this year’s annual Nobel Biocare World Tour. It was recently launched in Mumbai, India, and will come to three other locations in Asia including Singapore, Taipei and Gold Coast, Australia. The company has announced to hold a total of 14 of its three-day conferences in Asia, Europe and Latin America throughout the year.

“It’s a great pleasure to have this opportunity to share Nobel Biocare’s ideas, professional skills and experience with Chinese dental professionals,” said Dr Robert Gottlander, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Products for Nobel Biocare. “This is our second year of World Tour stops and we won’t be satisfied until the quality of care given to dental patients worldwide exceeds their expectations.”
